Tonight the Jets face-off against the Blues in the very busy
city of St. Louis . One night after
a World Series game and Monday Night Football, The Blues get the spotlight
tonight. The Jets are going to be hard pressed to finish this tough road trip
with a win, something they badly need. After leaving some points on the board
and giving some charity points to division rivals, the Jets find themselves
sitting in 6th place in the division, one point up on Dallas .
To make matters worse the next three
games are against Chicago (twice)
and Detroit . Ouch
.
The Jets are currently 1-1-1 on
this trip, and would be in great shape with a regulation win. It won't be easy,
but nothing comes easy in the NHL . Face off is at 7.00 CST on TSN -JETS.
The good news of course for Winnipeg
is that no other than Colorado is
running away with the division at the moment. Chicago
is where you would expect, and St Louis
has played the fewest games in the league. Minnesota ,
Nashville , Dallas ,
and Winnipeg will probably be
fighting it out all year for that last spot (or two with a crossover
possibility). The Jets can also take solace in the fact that they are .500 on
the road and have been unlucky or they would have an even better record.
This is the second time these teams have faced each other
with the Jets gutting out a tough come-from-behind shoot out victory on October
18th in Winnipeg . Alex Steen almost
stole the show last night had it not been the late heroics of Evander Kane and
Tobias Enstrom. Dustin Byfuglien was named first star of the game and all three
need to be better tonight that their last game against the Avalanche. Al
Montoya had a rare start against the Avs, so we can expect Ondrej Pavelic to
play the next 6 or 7 games.... Jaro Halak continues his excellent season
tonight in net for the Blues.
Ben Chiarot was recalled yesterday with the sad news
regarding Paul Postma. Often a lightening rod of criticism from many of the
fans, no one wants to see something serious like blood clots affect a player.
Hopefully he is fully able to recover. Tomas Vokoun of Pittsburgh
has suffered from blood clots as well in his career and is currently on the I/R
as a result. The timing unfortunately couldn't have been worse for Zach Redmond
who still hasn't played a game this year for the Ice Caps. Word is he may be
ready next week so if shows well, he could see himself back in Winnipeg
sooner than later.
