So where were we?

Thursday night the Jets drop the puck hosting Phoenix, one of the teams directly in front of them in the standings. The last games played in the NHL was on Feb 8th, and I'll be honest, I haven't looked at the standing once in that time. The good news, they are only two points out of the last spot. The bad news...

The Jets had a magnificent run to get to this point. New coach Paul Maurice has had a great impact on the team and hopefully this week of mid season training camp will help move the program even further along. So the reality is there are 5 teams chasing one spot, of if you would like, 7 teams chasing three spots. The Jets have played 2 more games than most of the teams they are battling. Also, the Jets have the 6th toughest strength of schedule remaining. The S.O.S. for all of these teams are Minnesota 1, Winnipeg 6, Phoenix 8, Nashville 13, Dallas 15, and Vancouver 28. The most recent odds from Sports Club Stats have the Jets sitting at 12.9% chance of making the playoffs.

Those are the numbers. The even better news is the Jets are seemingly healthy. Minnesota has several key injuries and have a habit of fading town the stretch in recent years. Phoenix and Vancouver had a tough run going into the break and Vancouver have another key injury in Ryan Kessler now to deal with. Nashville and Dallas were playing well going into the break and it sounds like Pekka Rinne is starting to make progress. This is going to be a dog fight right to the end and I don't see any of these teams making major additions or subtractions at the trade deadline. This promises to be a wild ride to the finish.
